Active Safety

Automotive safety has historically been defined by “Passive Safety Systems” that protected the passengers as the crash event was occurring or shortly after. With the advent of the 21st century there has been a shift, to augment Passive Safety, emphasizing technology to prevent or avoid accidents, referred to in the industry as 'Active Safety Systems'. The systems that are considered Active Safety constantly monitor the vehicles surroundings and alert the driver of dangers and even engage in evasive action so hazards can be avoided.

While originally found only in luxury vehicles, consumer demand for safer cars has risen to the point that these systems have become an expectation for everyone, rather than just a luxury for the few. Governmental regulatory agencies are following suit, increasingly making active safety technology a required part of the definition of a safe vehicle.

Active Safety is nothing new to Muth Mirror Systems. Our team of engineers has been involved in Active Safety for over 20 years, inventing and then perfecting the standards for Blind Spot Detection Displays (BSDD) and Signal Mirror® Technology. Muth Mirror Systems BSDD's are available for seventeen OEMs world wide and we've shipped over nine million BSDD's to date. This business directly reflects consumers' attitudes and perceptions of vehicle safety.

The 2012 study highlighting "DESIRABILITY AND WILLINGNESS TO PAY FOR SAFETY SYSTEMS" by leading market research firm Frost & Sullivan shows, safety is a stretegic driver in the vehicle purchase process with blind spot detection systems being one of the most preferred by owners. Frost & Sullivan has 50 years of experience in partnering with Global 1000 companies, emerging businesses and the investiment community from over 40 offices on six continents.
